Heather Windham
PhD, ALC
A Message From Heather: When I’m not counseling, I enjoy spending time with my husband and toddler-aged son. We are an outdoor family; we enjoy camping, riding ATVs, and days at the park. On a rainy day, you can find me curled up with a sugar-filled coffee and either a romance book or true-crime podcast. I also value my religion and spend a lot of time reflecting on and growing as a person. While this usually doesn’t play a role in my counseling sessions, if you are interested in incorporating your own religious or spiritual beliefs, let me know and we can talk about what that may look like for you.
About Heather
My name is Heather D. Windham, PhD, ALC, NCC, (she/her), and I am thankful you’ve decided
to begin the therapeutic process! I have previously worked as a school counselor, receiving my
Master’s Degree in School Counseling in 2018. I then earned my Doctorate Degree in
Counseling Education in 2022. I currently work full-time as an Assistant Professor at the
University of Alabama at Birmingham in addition to working with Warrior Wellness Group part
time. I am currently an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) through the Alabama Board of
Examiners in Counseling, under the supervision of Charles Duer, LPC-S. I also am a Nationally
Certified Counselor (NCC) and certified school counselor in Alabama.
While I do work with adults as well, I primarily work with children and adolescents, and their
families. I utilize a play therapy approach to counseling, which means that I take the focus off
talking and spend more time getting to know you and your child in a fun way. Sometimes
children have a hard time communicating their thoughts and feelings with words, so this
approach gives them a tool for communication that tends to come more naturally for them. I
also value person-centered counseling, which allows me to focus on you or your child’s
strengths and abilities as they are. When I work with adults, I will use play therapy within your
comfort level. However, I lean more towards person-centered therapy with adults to give you
the space to share your concerns and process them in a way that works best for you.
Thank you again for taking the time to visit my webpage today. Finding a therapist and starting
this process can be exciting, but also overwhelming sometimes. My goal is to create a safe
therapeutic space for us to work through any difficulties you may be facing right now. I hope
that I get the privilege of meeting you soon. I’d love to hear more about what makes you who
you are!
I currently accept Medicaid and cash-pay clients.
